The only times I've had clam chowder has been from this place, I have had it quite a few times and let me tell you i have not been disappointed yet. They are consistent with the flavor, I had a clam chowder to go on a bread bowl as my wife and I walked around, I can not express how good it was. The only place I will have my clam chowder from.

This review is way overdue, however the impression, has been lasting and so endearing. Early last spring I was spending some time with my 6 year old granddaughter and she told me she wanted to eat by the water. It was a beautiful early spring Saturday. I thought she would go for a pizza or hot dog outside for lunch. When we walked past the Grotto she saw a bowl of the seafood linguine and told me that is what she wanted, I thought she will never eat it. We were welcomed and felt very comfortable as the staff was very kind, warm and hospitable towards us. We shared the best seafood linguine that I have ever tasted. Our server was wonderful, and as we felt Chris Shake spoke to us. As we walked down the wharf upon leaving, a server ran up to us and handed my Granddaughter a stuffed otter. My Granddaughter turned ran off toward the Grotto and hugged Chris. I just want to say Thanks, for the most wonderful experience and that close to a year later the experience was still fresh in my mind. Sandra

Clam chowder is one of my favorite foods and this is the best I've ever had. We ordered it in a garlic bread bowl. The cod was perfectly pan fried. It was my birthday so we were given a delicious cheesecake. The service was great, they were very nice and attentive. It was quiet and nicely decorated inside. The bathroom was clean and very nice. Overall so happy I came here for my birthday!

One of the best clam chowder I've had in Northern Cal. Just don't get it in a bread bowl because the bread is way too thick and doughy and won't break down easily even if you have excellent knife skills. Also I don't think it's sourdough bread. Get the clam chowder in a cup or bowl.
The Aquarium's restaurant has clam chowder that's just as good inside a thinner, more manageable sourdough bread bowl.

Friendly, attentive service. We had to order the clam chowder. It does not disappoint! Light, creamy, the perfect amount of clams.
Nice touch with giving us roses as we left.

I am a very picky clam chowder person, but I have to say this clam chowder was very good. We had a very nice dinner, loved my expresso martini. I had fried shrimp, which I liked the size of the shrimp but they were a bit fishy, so I wouldn't say it was bad but I did notice it. My husband loved his drink and he really enjoyed his Salmon and couscous. 1st time here and glad we came, they did not disappoint.
